How often have you really stopped to think about what you are eating?
Do you assume that your government is protecting your health and well-being by monitoring and regulating the safety of what goes into or onto your food?.....You may be in for a shock!
In the past few years Canada’s Health Protections Branch has been embroiled in controversy and accusations of corruption. Questions of profit overriding safety are in the fore.
What does this mean to your health? It means you cannot trust what you read or hear. You will have to do some deeper research on your own to get to the truth.
For instance, Canada and the United States do not regulate the use or labelling of genetically-altered produce. In fact, the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors now requires that GE-free references on products must be stickered over!
This identification is mandatory in countries throughout the world, for good reason. Given the option, consumers will not buy suspect food.
What is genetically-altered food? Science has devised ways of combining the genes of different species of animals and plants to create new food products. The premise is to create produce that will be resistant to insects or herbicides, or that will not spoil as quickly. Unfortunately, what is being created in the process does more harm than good in a variety of ways.
Produce that does not spoil may travel well to market and last a long time on the shelf, but it lacks enzymes to break it down in the digestive tract. It also lacks the flavour of enzyme-rich food. Hybrid tomatoes are a prime example of this technology.
What are the dangers and side-effects that have been identified so far? Unnatural gene transfers between species can cause unpredictable mutations and the spread of dangerous diseases across species barriers.
Genetically-engineered seeds are already beginning to create havoc in nature through cross-pollination. Strains of herbicide-resistant weeds have begun to propigate.
Genetically-modified produce designed to be resistant to herbicides or insects has already proven to cause health problems, including resistance to antibiotics and cancer. Insect-killing toxins reside within the actual fruit or vegetable, so the poison cannot be washed off. This has resulted in new and stronger strains of viruses and bacteria which we cannot fight with current technology.
Biotech companies claim that these toxins are neutralized in the acidic condition of the stomach. But, as we age, stomach acidity decreases. And what about people who use stomach antacids? In addition, long-term testing has not been conducted and, those tests already conducted are suspected of cover-up.
Genetic mistakes can never be recalled. Once introduced, genetic defects will be passed on to subsequent generations and their effects will spread without limit. They can result in new diseases and weaknesses, new toxins and allergens, and a need for stronger and increased use of chemicals and antibiotics. This will only further contaminate our foods, animals, ourselves and our environment.
Scabs on apples, potatoes and other produce, even if eradicated by chemical means, are signs of disease. Studies conducted concluded that the poor quality cell structure of the fruit is passed on to us as skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, dematitis and candida. Our bodies cannot make any better cells than the quality of the cells in the food we eat.
The food we ingest passes on its DNA coding through its electro-magnetic field. You do not just derive simple nutritional value from your food. You also absorb the properties of its energy. How else could you have an allergic reaction to produce that has been genetically-altered with a gene from a substance to which you already react? This was demonstrated in a recent medical study.
Electro-magnetic fields of substances strengthen or weaken the fields of other substances with which they come in contact. They can also borrow electrons, causing carcinogenic free-radicals. When scientists try to pinpoint an exact element within a substance to create a specific reaction, they neglect the synergy that is created by the interaction of all the elements together.
Seedless varieties were not created entirely for your convenience. They are sterile plants, designed to ensure that farmers have to buy from seed companies annually, since they cannot propagate their own seeds from mature plants.
This means you are unwittingly eating food that will, several years or generations down the line, prove to cause irrepairable damage to you and your children. It is entirely possible that, in twenty years, the sterile produce we have fed our children may render them genetically unable to reproduce. Until recently, baby food manufacturers often used genetically-altered produce. Gerber now refuses to use GE produce.
Due to pesticides and plastics, sperm counts have already decreased worldwide by 50% in the last 50 years. If this trend continues, within two generations, we could have a predominantly sterile population.
Soybeans are one of the most common genetically-altered seeds. They are found in 70-90% of our processed foods! Since they are so common, it will be hard to trace health problems or toxic effects as they arise.
What about the effects of massive amounts of chemical fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides used on our produce? In the first place, these substances are required only because soils are nutrient-deficient. Poor soil results in weak, nutrient-deficient plants, making them vulnerable to predators. Hence the need for chemical intervention. Unfortunately, nutrient deficient plants starve us of our required nutrients, causing us to become vulnerable to disease.
In addition, many pesticides and herbicides cannot be completely washed off and are absorbed to some degree into the fruit or vegetable. This means that even after washing and peeling you may not be safe.
Also, Agriculture Canada does not test for the effects of combined pesticide toxicity, or for long-term effects. This means that dangerous compounds can be inadvertantly produced, or cummulative effects could take years to be evident. In addition, much of our produce is imported off-season from countries that have much more lax pesticide laws.
Do you purchase packaged foods, cover your food in plastic wrap or microwave in plastic containers? PVC plastic wrap and containers leach harmful chemicals into food. Britain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has found traces of plastic in every food sample taken since 1993!
Plastic contains a cocktail of deadly chemicals which can disrupt normal hormone function, impair fertility, and cause birth defects. Plastic is used in everything from toys to medical supplies such as IV bags and tubes.
If you are experiencing impotence, PMS, menopausal problems, memory impairment or behavioral problems, examine how much plastic is on your food. Tupperware and Rubbermaid use Polypropylene, which is considered safe.
Another common food danger is synthetic additives such as colourings, flavours, and preservatives. More than 2000 different chemicals are routinely added to our packaged foods.
Breakfast cereals are a big culprit. As grains are processed, they become devoid of nutrient value. They must then be fortified by adding nutrients.
Unfortunately, this is done by the cheapest means possible. Inorganic minerals are often used. The body cannot use them in this form, and treats them as a toxic metal.
Synthetic or inorganic substances and metals cannot be digested or processed by the liver. Instead they are stored in the organs or subcutaneous skin tissue. This eventually compromises health by resulting in a host of maladies from metal poisoning to allergies, behavioral disorders and disease.
Chemicals and pharmaceuticals are also routinely used in meat production. Steroids and hormones are used to speed the growth rate of animals, fish and poultry, or to increase the production of eggs. These chemicals remain within the organs and tissues of the slaughtered animals. You, in turn, eat these chemicals in the meat.
Adrenalin can also be present in certain cuts of meat. Adrenalin results from extreme fear in the animal about to be slaughtered. Ingested in large or frequent amounts, adrenalin can result in neck or shoulder pain or stiffness, in much the same way as if your own body had produced it.
Probably the most dangerous chemicals present today in our food are antibiotics. Through our diets we are unwittingly consuming large quantities of unprescribed drugs.
Canada permits the use of antibiotics in animal feed for growth promotion and feed efficiency. An estimated 20,000 tons of antibiotics are used annually to increase animal production! This compounds yearly as it takes increasingly larger doses to perform the same function.
Delivered to animals in their feed, these drugs are contributing to the development of drug-resistant organisms and bacteria which pose a threat to human health. Drug-resistant genes have now evolved which manufacture proteins that neutralize different classes of antibiotics.
This means that uncontrolled epidemics of new strains of particularly potent viruses are entirely possible. Animals are already developing resistant strains of bacteria. Human infections by these antibiotic-resistant germs has increased eightfold in only 5 years! We are all at risk!
In addition, as we ingest these meats, the antibiotics kill off beneficial bacteria within our intestinal tract, compromising proper digestion and nutrient assimilation. This upsets the pH of our digestive tract and allows toxins to build up over time, leading to chronic illness.
Our bodies also accumulate these drugs. Resistance eventually builds up, which means we will need increasingly higher dosages of antibiotics to fight viruses.
And, what about people who are allergic to mold-based antibiotics? They may not even be aware of how or why they are experiencing allergic reactions such as respiratory problems or repeated cold symptoms.
Add virus-resistant bacteria to genetically-modified organisms and one can easily see the sci-fi nightmare that can potentially unfold in the very near future. It’s frightening!
What can you do to protect yourself and your family? READ LABELS. Do not buy food that is fortified or processed. Avoid convenience foods and packaged products. Do not purchase hybrid produce such as broccolini or seedless varieties.
Instead choose granola cereals, breads baked with ancient whole grains instead of white flour.
Talk to your grocer about labelling and tell him you do not want GE foods. Grocery stores will succumb to public demand in order to survive.
Try to buy your food at a health food store. They are more conscientious about the origins of their products.
Buy Certified Organic produce or grow your own using heritage varieties of seeds. Organic may cost more, but it has no chemicals on it and it is not genetically-altered. It also has a higher nutrient content in a form that the body can assimilate, and carries a higher electrical charge to assist cellular functions.
Regularly detoxify your body to ensure that chemicals do not remain within you to do permanent damage. Make acidophylus and digestive enzymes a regular part of your meals. Your local health food store can assist you with appropriate products.
In the long run, these measures will save you money on nutritional supplements and medical bills. Consider it a cost of maintenance!
