Benefits of Beeswax Candles

Once a necessity in the home, candles today are used primarily for ambience. Their warm glow can turn a plain bubblebath into a decadent indulgence, or set a sensual mood for a night of romance. Everyone loves candlelight!

Hand-dipped in olden-times from tallow or beeswax, most candles today are made of paraffin. An effluent from petroleum refinement, paraffin starts as grey-black sludge. It is bleached and then coloured and/or scented before becoming the product you purchase to burn in your home.

A carcinogen when burned, paraffin becomes an even greater health hazard because dioxins are created during the bleaching process and synthetic fragrances are added. When burned they release fluoro-carbons and soot.

Beeswax candles are a healthier alternative. Their delicate natural honey scent wafts gently through a room as the candles slowly burn.

Although initially more expensive to purchase, beeswax is a better investment in the long run. Beeswax flame burns hotter and brighter with a lovely golden halo, but, the wax also burns much more slowly and, therefore, lasts longer than other types of candles.

Non-toxic and non-carcinogenic, beewax candles release negative ions when burned. If you’ve ever caught a whiff of laundry fresh off the clothes line, or been outside after a thunderstorm, you’ve smelled the fresh-air scent produced by negative ions.

Anything floating in the air around you is doing so because it is positively charged. This includes food, garbage, and pet odors, toxic emissions from household furnishings and construction materials, dust, and even viruses and bacteria.

Negative ions released from beeswax candles bind with positive ions in the air to create a complete molecule. As a result, positive ions carrying dust, mold, odors and toxins become heavier and fall to the ground.

As it burns, the candle flame convects air, passing it through the flame. It burns off pollutants in the same manner as a catalytic converter in your car. Thus, beeswax candles are natural air purifiers.

Never burn paraffin candles at the same time as beeswax! The negative ion effect will coat your furniture with thick black soot from the paraffin candle!

Always keep at least one beeswax candle in your automobile for emergencies. The hot flame will quickly heat snow for drinking, as well as keep the car interior warm. The negative ions will help keep your spirits up, too! Crack open the window just a bit to let fresh oxygen in.

When purchasing beeswax candles, be sure they are 100% beeswax. Manufacturers are allowed to sell candles as beeswax if they contain as little as 10% beeswax!

Over time, beeswax produces a natural tannin that coats the surface with a whitish film called "bloom." This can be dissolved by gently passing a blow-dryer over the surface, or rubbing the surface with your finger. Apply the natural residue on your finger underneath your eyes or on your hands as a healthy skin moisturizer! ~~
